OUR WORKFORCE

We have a large workforce managed by competent Occupational Health and Safety Officers which are a permanent part of the organization. All workers are provided with all the essential PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) Gears which enhances safety of our employees while Working inside the yard whether it may be on the Ships or in the cutting area of our yard. Recycling of vessels is an extensively labour centric business and hence we make sure in offering best solutions in terms and safety for our workers.

At any given point of time we employ 100+ workers to recycle with us.

HEAVY LIFTING CRANES

At Bharat Ship Breakers, we have deployed 5 heavy lifting crawler cranes. Any movement of Iron and Steel plates, blocks and machinery inside the facility is done only with the help of a crane. We have increased our dependency on cranes extensively. In the last 1 year we have purchased cranes having a lifting capacity of more than 100 MT. We have an in-house division that maintains all machines. Each and every crane moving inside our facility is certified and fit to work.

HOT WORKS

Blocks are converted into custom sized ship plates depending upon its thickness with the help of a gas cutting torch. A HSE supervisor is present inside the cutting zone to monitor and guide the workers.

HANDLING & DISPOSAL

At Bharat Ships handling of hazardous waste is carried out in an organized and systematic manner. Waste collected on-board is stored in the Hazardous storage block with extreme precautions. Storage Chambers are constructed in such a way that there is zero illumination inside the panels. Different type of wastes is stored in different Compartments. Awareness and Training to the is highly encouraged and followed in respect to the disposal and handling of hazardous goods extracted from the ship.

CLASSROOM TRAINING

We have on-going safety programs for our workers with live demonstrations. The management invites external trainers and tutors who have diversified experience when it comes to Hazardous Waste Management. Training Sessions also motivates our employees to work with utmost safety within the ship recycling industry. Class room Trainings as well as Assessments post training are carried out by Safety Supervisors to ensure there is no gap between the knowledge imparted and used on board and inside the facility.

Medical Assistance Room

We have a first aid room which is also a medical assistance room to our workers where we keep regular health check-up camps for our employees. We have also appointed a Medical practitioner to visit our facility twice a month.

Jetty near the Intertidal Zone

To limit the gap between our impermeable flooring region and vessel at the intertidal front of our facility, we have constructed a jetty. We are one of the very few yards in Alang who have adopted such an approach in handling
